When Brendan first contacted me about the Lake Louise proposal he was planning, my heart skipped a beat. What a great way to kick off the year!

He and his love, Katherine, were travelling through Canada from Australia. When they stopped at Lake Louise, he wanted to pop the question. I was thrilled to be included in such a celebratory occasion, and absolutely love photographing proposals in the beautiful Canadian Rocky Mountains.

As often happens, it didn’t go exactly as planned. While I tucked away behind a bank of trees to get the perfect shots, Brendan was leading Katherine out on the Lake with the plan to propose to here there, mountains towering behind. Sounds like a solid plan right? Well, Katherine was actually quite timid about following Brendan out onto the frozen lake. Finally, he decided to drop his pack right where they were and got down on one knee. Naturally, Katherine said “yes”.

After the proposal

With the big secret out of the bag, we continued with some fun shots around the lake. Several times I caught Katherine glimpsing down at her beautiful ring. While we were shooting, Katherine remarked about how nice it would be to stay at the Chateau Lake Louise. Little did she know, Brendan had made a reservation for the night to make the surprise complete.

I guess you could say that Brendan had a certain degree of confidence!
