Intimate Annex Ale Project wedding

Because 2020 has us all thinking small and intimate, you need to know about Annex Ale Project weddings. Annex is perfect for couples who are laid-back and want an atypical wedding, where connection and intimacy are key. To clarify, liking beer is not mandatory! The owners, Erica and Andrew, answered all of my questions about Annex and what makes it so inviting.  Brides and grooms, do read on.

All about Annex Ale Project

Annex Ale Project began in response to our shared belief that Alberta-brewed, boundary-pushing beverages had enormous potential. Designed by Fort Architecture and DIRTT, our space is clean and inviting. It was designed to be minimal and bright to showcase our wares. We’re located in the heart of Manchester Industrial Park. Subsequently, we were one of the first notches on Calgary’s ever-expanding “Barley Belt”.

What makes Annex unique?

Breweries with taprooms offer cool, industrial spaces to host weddings. Annex’s venue space is tastefully-designed so that it feels cozy and welcoming.  It’s not sterile like a typical production facility. In contrast, the oak barrels within the soda shop pay homage to our dedication to forward-thinking beers while offering an organic backdrop for any table setting. With an Annex Ale Project wedding, couples are able to use all 2,000 square feet.  This includes the tap room and soda shop, with two bars and a patio (weather permitting). With two separate but adjoining spaces, the ceremony and reception can take place all under one roof. We believe weddings should be a reflection of the people getting married. To sum it up, Annex is the perfect neutral canvas for couples to decorate according to their taste and vibe.

Our Soda Shop

Because our taproom was always hopping, we recently expanded with the addition of Calgary’s first Adult Soda Shop. We thought a soda shop would be an excellent addition to the space. We wanted everyone to feel included in the taproom culture and we weren’t wrong. Since opening, our soda shop has developed a loyal following all its own. For example, we serve our own root beer, ginger beer and other seasonal offerings, solo or mixed into delicious cocktails.

Availability in 2020 & 2021

In July of 2020, we will open for bookings in the 2021 season.  We are always happy to provide an intimate and fun space for couples to elope or take engagement/wedding photos. Due to mandatory social-distancing in place across the province, we believe we cannot provide the best experience for larger parties.

Menu Options

As part of our expansion, we partnered with local food artisans, Empire Provisions. Guests have the option to dine-in from their aptly named Lil’ Empire Burger window, or create their own dining experience via their custom catering menu.

A word from Empire Provisions on their catering options…

We provide customized menus with seasonal offerings, highlighting the best local produce and sustainably-raised meat. Our signature grazing tables are a dramatic offering for any wedding. For instance, a grazing table is the ideal way to greet your guests during the cocktail hour.  They feature:

    • house-made charcuterie & breads
    • artisan cheeses
    • crudites
    • fresh fruit

Fun fact

Would you like to know an interesting fact about Annex Ale Project?  They elegantly adapted to COVID-19 and the subsequent closure of their taproom, by collaborating to craft a recipe for Crisis-Grade Hand Sanitizer. Well done Annex!
