Daily Wedding Inspiration – Snippet & Ink

Today I have a special treat for you. Kathryn Storke, the founder and creator of the wedding blog Snippet & Ink, was kind enough to do an e-interview with me and provides us with some insight into her blog, what inspires her and her own wedding plans. If you’re new to Snippet & Ink, it’s a site full of personalized wedding tidbits and beautiful imagery. To me though, it’s Kathryn’s inspiration boards that set this site apart. What a great way to pull together the ideas and colors you love to help set the tone for your wedding. You don’t want to miss this.

Kathryn’s Beach House Blue board is a fav of mine and was the inspiration for this shoot .

*Tara:* Tell us how Snippet & Ink began. What prompted you to start it?

*Kathryn:* I’ve really loved pretty wedding things ever since I was 16 and my older sister got married. When I found myself in between jobs and with some extra time on my hands, I started making inspiration boards for fun – a blog just seemed like the obvious place to put them.

*Tara:* Your inspiration boards are my favourite part of your blog. Do you have a background in design or how did you get started on that path?

*Kathryn:* I actually majored in English and Creative Writing (which I suppose comes in handy in a different way for blogging!). I’d say my sense of color and design comes from my mother, an artist and interior designer, and her various creative friends—I grew up surrounded by women who taught me an appreciation for beauty and thoughtful details.

*Tara:* What would you recommend that a bride use as a starting point for an inspiration board?

*Kathryn:* Browse websites and magazines to get a sense of what your personal wedding style is, but I would say that the best starting point for an inspiration board is a venue and a date – the location and season of your wedding can really point you in a strong design direction, and toward elements that will make sense for the time and place.

*Tara:* You must see a lot of weddings and ideas every day. Any new trends you’ve been noticing that take your breath away?

*Kathryn:* Honestly, trends don’t really take my breath away. What makes me super excited about a wedding is when it’s clear that the couple has made decisions based on what they love, and what makes sense for them, rather than following whatever is cool that month.

*Tara:* What types of material really catches your eye when you’re putting together blog posts?

*Kathryn:* I’m a sucker for rich textures and colors. Florals by people like Ariella Chezar and Saipua, or incredible interior design – those are the things that really inspire me.

*Tara:* What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned as a blogger?

*Kathryn:* Oh gosh – I think I’m always learning something new. One of the biggest things I’ve learned as a blogger is how important it is to get away from the computer from time to time. It’s so easy to just stay plugged in to my laptop for hours – days! – on end.

*Tara:* What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned as an upcoming bride?

*Kathryn:* That the most important thing about a wedding is marrying the person you love, hopefully surrounded by friends and family, and everything else is just gravy.

*Tara:* Any hints on the inspiration board for your own wedding?

*Kathryn:*Since it’s a December wedding, we’re incorporating some fun seasonal elements into our wedding, and the inspiration board I’ve made reflects that.

Thanks to Kathryn for this great information and all the best on your wedding in December. I can’t wait to read all about it.
